15 of 51

had no hreflang tags

10 of 51

How does the translation quality checker work?

  • Paste your homepage URL. Any site, whatever you used to translate it.
  • We compare both versions. Block by block, from menus and banners to buttons and footer.
  • Get your score and checklist. In under a minute.

Like any automated review, the checker spots what's likely wrong rather than proving it. Treat what it flags as a list for a native speaker to confirm.

Weglot Translation Quality Checker: URL and language inputs, a quality score of 72/100 and a list of translations flagged as untranslated or reading wrong
Translation Quality Checker report: a translation score of 98% rated Good, and a translation to improve with the current French struck through and a suggested fix

A score out of 100. A checklist to fix it.

The checker reads your translated homepage, flags what's left untranslated and what's likely wrong, and suggests a fix for each line.

  • Navigation: menus, buttons and footer links, on desktop and mobile
  • Names: brand, product, partner and payment names that should never be translated
  • Key terms: one translation per term, everywhere on the page
  • Text left untranslated: banners, pop-ups, promo codes and seasonal campaigns
  • Hidden text: skip links, page titles, meta descriptions, alt text and form labels
  • Numbers and formats: prices, dates, phone numbers and units
  • Search signals: a URL per language, hreflang tags, translated title and meta description

Why these mistakes slip through

Looking at where the mistakes sat, three reasons stand out.

Nobody reads the result

If no one on the team speaks French, nobody notices "Proche" on a close button.

Reviews focus on the main text

People proofread headlines and product descriptions, not the footer, the cart or the pop-ups.

Short text has little context

The fewer words in a label, the more meanings it can have.

Found issues? Fix them where you see them

If your site runs on Weglot, most of this checklist maps to tools you already have.

  • Translation Guidelines: set the terms and rules your translations follow, so brand names stay as they are
  • Translation Exclusion: keep specific words, blocks or URLs out of translation
  • Visual Editor: review and edit translations on a live preview of your page
  • Translation List: see your original and translated content side by side

F.A.Q

How can I check if my website translation is good?

Start with the short text: menus, buttons, footer, and mobile navigation. Ask a native speaker to read those, check that names and key terms stay consistent, and run an automated check for a first pass. An automated check flags likely problems, and the native speaker confirms them.

Can AI check a translation?

It can do a useful first pass. AI can spot text left in the original language, terms translated several ways, and phrasing that looks off, even in a language you don't read. It can also be wrong, so treat what it flags as a list to verify, not a verdict.

Should brand names be translated?

Usually not. Brand, product, partner, and payment method names should stay as they are, unless your company has deliberately chosen a local name for a market. A glossary rule keeps them from being translated by accident.

Is the Translation Quality Checker free?

Yes. Your score and checklist are free, and no signup is needed to see your score.

Does it work if I don't use Weglot?

Yes. It checks any translated homepage, whatever you used to translate it.
