A Year of Collaboration and Celebration: Five for the Future at Weglot in 2024

Now that 2025 is here, it's the perfect time to reflect on what the Five for the Future (5ftF) team at Weglot achieved in the last year. Spoiler alert: it's been an exciting, collaborative, and community-driven journey. From major events to individual milestones, 2024 has been a year to remember… and a year to celebrate.
Marching into collaboration
March 26th and 27th were days that brought people together in more ways than one. Against the vibrant backdrop of Paris during its Olympic year, we hosted our very own Community Day. Picture this: a part of our 5ftF team (Pedro, we missed you!), brand ambassadors, and the full Weglot marketing crew under one roof.
It wasn't just another day at the office: it was a day of sharing, bonding, and, let's be honest, some fierce table football competition. Between dynamic sessions on how we're contributing to WordPress, networking opportunities, and more than a few laughs over coffee and croissants, it was a testament to what happens when passionate people come together. And yes, we indulged in some incredible food and drinks to keep the energy high. It is Paris, after all.

Individual impact, collective success
While Community Day was a highlight in terms of organizing ourselves, gathering ideas and planning, the 5ftF team worked the whole year around. Each member brought their unique energy to the WordPress ecosystem, supporting open-source growth in ways that made a real impact. Let's sum it all up a bit:
- Francesco Di Candia: If you've recently been to a WordCamp in Europe, chances are you've seen Francesco in action. This year, he's been organizing not one but two WordCamp Europe events: WCEU 2024 and WCEU 2025, taking on the role of volunteer team lead for the latter. Francesco also helped coordinate the Rome Core Days, an innovative event that received fantastic feedback. His mentorship extended to WordCamp Torino (unfortunately, it had to be cancelled) and the brand-new WordCamp Pisa. As if he wasn’t busy enough, Francesco is now part of the Incident Response Team and has been nominated as a Community Team Rep for 2025. In short, Francesco has become a cornerstone of the Italian WordPress community.
- Pedro Mendonça: This year, Pedro took on even more responsibilities while continuing to deliver excellent results for his current commitments. He helped prepare for Contributor Day at WordCamp Porto 2024, participated in various translation events (both online and in-person), and ensured all WordPress core translations were ready on time for release. Pedro also contributed to the GlotPress ecosystem with features and plugin development, and as a General Translation Editor (GTE) for the Portuguese community, he reviewed countless translations. Currently, he's lending his expertise to the Contributor Day preparations for WordCamp Lisboa 2025.
- Celi Garoe: Joining the team in December, Celi is already helping as much as possible as a member of WordPress' sustainability initiatives. The project has had an impressive year, working on ideas to make WordPress greener, like promoting sustainable events and hosting practices and developing tools to measure the carbon footprint of WordPress websites. We're thrilled to have Celi on board and can't wait to see what 2025 holds.
- Juan Hernando: I had an amazing year! As one of the lead organizers of WordCamp Europe 2024, the largest WordPress event of the year, I took to the stage to address over two thousand attendees—a truly unforgettable moment. Looking ahead, I'm already serving as a mentor for WordCamp Europe 2025 in Basel. I have also deepened my role as Program Manager for the WordPress Global Community Team, the group responsible for coordinating all official WordPress events worldwide, from hundreds of local meetups to WordCamps and next-generation events. Beyond that, I have been an active mentor in the WordPress official mentorship program, participating in both the February and October cohorts. In addition, I have taken on new responsibilities with the Incident Response Team, the Global Sponsorship Team, and the GatherPress integration project.

Looking Ahead to 2025
As we reflect on this year's achievements, it's clear that none of this would have been possible without Weglot's dedication and support. Here's to another year of contributions, community building, and making WordPress even better together. Let's raise a glass to a fantastic 2025!
